Shazam is an American superhero film first released by Warner Bros. Pictures on March 15, 2019 in Toronto and April 5th, 2019 in the United States. It is the seventh installment in the DC Extended Universe and is based on the DC comics character, Captain Marvel (aka Shazam). The film is a New Line Cinema production, who are well know for their production on several other box office hits such as Sex and the City film, the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Hobbit. David F. Sandberg directs the screenplay written by Henry Gayden, who was assisted by Darren Lemke in the story writing. David Sandberg’s creative team includes several individuals who also assisted him with “Annabelle: Creation” including Maxime Alexandre as the director of photography, Jennifer Spence as the production designer, editor Michel Allerand and costume designer Leah Butler. After the surprising success of the first Shazam! film, we’re super excited for the release of the sequel.
What’s the story line of Shazam! 2: Fury of Gods?
The sequel has been dubbed Shazam! 2: Fury of the Gods. Although no specific details have been released on what to expect with Shazam 2’s story line, we anticipate it will pick up where the first film left off. The first film is set in Philadelphia and centers around Billy Batson, a 14-year old foster child. An ancient wizard grants Billy the power to turn into the adult superhero Shazam simply by shouting the word— SHAZAM! Shazam’s adversary, Thaddeus Sivana, becomes embittered after the wizard deemed him unworthy of powers but manages to eventually steal them anyway. After the villainous Doctor Sivana takes Billy’s foster siblings hostage, Billy agrees to transfer his powers over to Sivana in order to guarantee his siblings’ safety. At the end of the first film, Billy steals Sivana’s powers and returns them, with the mid-credits scene showing Dr. Sivana loopy and distraught while imprisoned in a cell before being approached by the infamous Mister Mind, a talking caterpillar who just happens to be one of Shazam’s older archenemies.
What’s the release date Of Shazam! 2: Fury of Gods?
Unfortunately, production for many of DC Comic’s companies are experiencing delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Production for Shazam 2 is expected to being in spring of 2021. Back in April or 2020, director David Sandberg that he’s continuing to work on writing the script.
“Well, we’ll see how long this goes, because I mean, we were going to start shooting this year. But, I mean, who knows how long this will go on? I mean, it feels like every movie gets delayed now, so we’ll see what happens with Shazam!“
Many months later, it’s clear filming will not be taking place as planned this summer. The original release date slated for April 1st, 2022 has been pushed back due to these delays. It is now scheduled to drop on November 4th of 2022 if all goes well and there are no further delays.

- Adam Brody as Super Hero Freddy (The O.C., Jennifer’s Body and Ready or Not)
- Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freeman (IT and IT Chapter 2)
- Marta Milans as Rosa Vasquez (High Maintenance and No Tomorrow)
- Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock was considered to star as the villain Black Adam but the project fell through.
