Saturday Night Live’s broadcast on October 24, featuring Adele in her hosting debut and H.E.R. musical guest, received a 5.0-rated household Live+Same Day rating in the 44-metre local markets and a 2.4-adult rating of 18-49 in the 25 local meter markets.
The episode, which opened with a spoof of the final presidential debate, was hosted by Issa Rae with musical guest Justin Bieber (4.5, 2.0) and double-digits from last week’s broadcast. It ranks behind the Chris Rock-hosted premiere as the second highest rated show of the season in both households and 18-49 and third since Nielsen updated its methodology a week into the 2018-19 season, behind last year’s Eddie Murphy holiday episode and the opener this fall.
Last night in metered-market homes, SNL was the # 1 show on the Big 4 networks, ahead of Fox’s Game 4 World Series coverage (5.0 vs. 4.7). SNL tied the World Series telecast for the night for # 1 in adults 18-49 in the local citizens meters (2.4 each).
As SNL host, Adele is the newest musical artist to get her first big acting role, joining artists including Justin Timberlake, Bieber and Halsey. In addition to the Cold Open and The Bachelor parody debate, Adele’s monologue, in which she joked about her weight loss, and the two news segments of the Weekend Update are attracting most of the views online as of Sunday morning.
