Netflix’s A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting: About the Film

A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting (2020) is an upcoming Netflix original based on the book trilogy written by Joe Ballarini, who has also written the screenplay. Walden Media and Montecito Pictures have acquired movie rights to the story and they will be teaming up with Netflix for distribution of the film. Rachel Talalay (Dr. Who, Sherlock, Tank Girl) will be directing the film alongside executive producers Ivan Reitman and Amie Karp, with Naia Cucukov, Tom Pollock, and Ilona Herzberg.


A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting: The 2020 Netflix Release Date

Netflix has confirmed the film will be available for streaming on October 15, 2020. The movie was first announced back in March of 2019. Additionally, Netflix was brought on board in April of 2019 and production began in August of 2019, with the first day of shooting taking place on August 30th, 2019. The bulk of the cast lineup was announced in September 2019. The film is currently in the post-production phase.

The first movie in the expected live-action trilogy will be based on the first installment of the book series by the same name, A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting, written by Joe Ballarini. The author describes the series as follows —

The Last Kids on Earth meets Goosebumps in this hilarious new series about a secret society of babysitters who protect kids from the monsters that really do live under their beds!

The book is about a top-secret society of babysitters that has existed for thousands of years. The story begins when high-schooler Kelly Furgeson reluctantly agrees to babysit Jacob Fellman on Halloween. Unfortunately, Jacob gets abducted by the Boogeyman and his group of monsters while under Kelly’s watch. Kelly then teams up with the babysitters to rescue Jacob and ultimately save the world.

Tom Felton as The Grand Guignol

Tom is most well known or his role in the Harry Potter franchise playing Draco Malfoy. He will also be starring in the upcoming Burial film (currently in pre-production) and The Forgotten Battle (post-production).

Tamara Smart as Kelly Ferguson

Tamara will also be starring as Juliet in the upcoming Artemis Fowl movie. She has also been seen in several episodes of The Worst Witch from 2017 to 2020, as well as the TV mini-series Are You Afraid of the Dark?
