SeenON! Guest Blogger: MyBeautyMatch.com on Lipstick Jungle

  |  { 8 } COMMENTS

Krizia from www.myBeautyMatch.com talks about Nico Reilly’s stylish jewelry!

I cannot get enough of Lipstick Jungle. Now that’s it’s moved from Wednesday nights at 10 pm EST to Friday nights at 10 pm EST on NBC, I can end my week on the right fashion foot!

Just after last week’s episode (Chapter 15: Weekend Getaway), I noticed that a lot of the searches that brought new readers to my site came from women wanting to know more about Nico Reilly’s jewelry.

To give you an example of big bold jewelry that really rocks, I thought I’d highlight some of my favourite Nico Reilly looks:

Nico on Halloween night with Wendy: It doesn’t matter if you are only wearing lipgloss with a black dress you bought three seasons ago, this necklace screams look at me NOW!

Nico having breakfast at Wendy’s house after Wendy got fired from her high powered job: This necklace takes that little simple black dress to totally new heights!

Nico during a team meeting: Did you notice how the stylists paired an orange necklace with a coral sweater (which is no doubt cashmere)?

Nico during a team meeting (again): Look at how the stylist broke the color palette by adding two gold bangles! I love big rings, but even I would not dare to wear that big rock Nico has on her right hand.

Krizia from www.myBeautyMatch.com reveals the P & G/Cover Girl Look Book with Pat McGrath’s runway looks and colors sheets.

Imagine getting your hands on the exact colors used on runway looks that have been created by one of the world’s top makeup artist?

I know- I know, it sounds too good to be true, but it’s not!

I was able to score the Fall/Winter 2008 LookBook created by the grande dame of makeup: Pat McGrath. This famed makeup artist from the U.K. has created the runway looks for a number of big designers and she also happens to be P & G Global Creative Design Director.

When you look at the end results of these stunning looks, you no longer question why Vogue magazine dubbed her “THE” most influential make-up artist in the world!!!

The Autumn/Winter 2008 Cover Girl Beauty Look Book will leave you drooling and the best part of it all is that you simply need to follow the instructions to re-create your own runway looks!

You’ll find looks from Balenciaga, Anna Sui, Y-3, Bottega Veneta Lanvin, Gucci, BCBG, Christian Dior, John Galliano, Oscar de la Renta, Nina Ricci, Louis Vuitton and Dolce & Gabbana (D&G).

All of the looks are simply dazzling and you’ll have fun recreating them for your parties or evening out with the girls!

Alas, the Cover Girl Look Book doesn’t come with Pat McGrath, but given how much details are offered … it’s the next best thing to being able to afford the services and expertise of one of the world’s best makeup artists!

You can download the Autumn/Winter 2008 P & G Beauty/Cover Girl Look Book and simply take it with you to your nearest store that sells Cover Girl makeup to get the look of the season.

SeenON! Guest Blogger: Tim Gunn is a makeover master!

Tim_Gunns_Guide_to_style.jpg

Krizia from www.myBeautyMatch.com on Tim Gunn beauty and style advice!

Season one of Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style might be over, but thanks to re-runs there are still many great beauty tricks to learn from the older episodes. I have to be honest and state that I absolutely love Tim Gunn’s show! I personally think that every single woman should actually watch the show because there is so much to learn.

I was recently watching an episode where Tim and his co-host Veronica Webb transform Karen Vito from a woman who dressed with little elegance into a sophisticated 41-year old mother of one.

Other than the fact that Karen was still trying to recapture, or should I say hold on to her youth, by dressing with clothes that is one or two sizes two small, she also had is all wrong when it came to makeup and hair style.

It’s funny because for the first half of the show Karen was so concerned with not being transformed into an “old lady”, but she didn’t understand that her clothing options and her makeup were making her look dated.

The first thing you notice about Karen is that she wears too much jewelry, she shows too much cleavage, she wears way too much makeup and her hair is far too long and it has no shape.

Trust me, I’m a huge advocate of long hair one women as they age, if it suits them. You might remember my tribute to the women of Desperate Housewives. That said, shapeless hair will drag your face down and make you look warn out and old.

Karen committed a number of beauty sins:

* her hair made her look like a rocker chick from the 80s (and she’s a hairdresser by profession) br/>

* she wore very dark purple lipstick

* she contoured her eyes with dark black eyeliner that boxes her eyes and made them look smaller

* she must have been a sun worshipper because her forehead was line with depth wrinkles

Veronica Webb enlisted the help of Mark Garrison (makeup artist) and Vincent Longo (hair stylist) to give Karen a more polished look.

The results where dazzling!

Here’s what Mark Garrison did:

* he tones down the makeup and softened the colours Karen used to chose

* he focused on applying makeup on Karen’s top lid to avoid that boxed-up look

* he used purple shades to accentuate her brown eyes

* he applied a reddish-brown lipstick that brightened her face

Here’s what Vincent Longo did to take Karen from 80s rocker chick to contemporary sophisticate:

* he cut off all of Karen’s dead ends

* he changed the color of her highlights from a blond to a copper shade

* he blow dried her hair to give her a more polished and tamed look

Karen was trapped in an image that used to work for her, but it stopped working and she didn’t realize it. She was looking like a caricature when she thought she looked sexy. Tim Gunn (and his experts) transformed this woman who used to look a bit trashy into a sophisticated woman. I know it’s only new clothes, a little bit of makeup and some hair styling product, but the whole thing made Karen a much happier and confident person!

SeenON! Guest Blogger: Amanda on Ugly Betty wears a hot summer makeup trend

  |  { 1 } COMMENT

beautymatch_logo.jpg

amanda_ugly_betty.jpg

Krizia from www.myBeautyMatch.com on Summer 2008 makeup trends for blonds!

I’m still giggling from last week’s season finale of Ugly Betty. The show had to be a huge hit because I saw clips of Wilhelmina Slater (played by Vanessa Williams) and guest star supermodel Naomi Campbell everywhere on the internet.

I know we won’t be seeing Ugly Betty on the small screen for the next few months … unless ABC has reserved that 8pm EST Thursday night spot for reruns … but there’s a lot to learn when it comes to makeup from this smash hit.

In a recent episode Amanda Tanen (played by Becki Newton) was wearing a dazzling mirage of green shades on her eyes. In my opinion it was the kind of perfect makeup that can stop traffic.

In a recent edition of InStyle magazine they featured this new trend in makeup and a few pages later they featured Becki Newton, so I knew I had to highlight this “beauty” coincidence.

The surprising thing is that both Becki and the model that was used for the InStyle shoot have green eyes and I would never have thought that green eyeshadow would work on women with greens eyes, but obviously … I was wrong.

Now don’t get me wrong, this summer’s trend can also look fantastic on brunettes, but I found that on blonds it made their features stand out even more.

If you are going to play with green eyeshadow as a summer trend, you’ll want to remember to choose a shade of green that best suits your personality and your complexion. A dark shade of green will look richer and more sophisticated while paler shades will be ideal for a more fun and playful look. Lighter shades are also excellent for women who have very pale skin.

There are many cosmetic companies who have great shades of green for this summer. If you don’t know where to start, I would suggest you take a look at a few of these options:

Shiseido’s ‘Clover Dew’ which is sea foam green

Urban Decay’s loose pigments in ‘Graffiti’ which is an almost hunter green shadow

Estee Lauder’s ‘Sea Grass’ which is another sea foam shade

Giorgio Armani’s “Maestro’ which is a light bright green

Clarins’ “Jungle Green’ which is a more intensive green, but not as deep as Urban Decay’s

Shu Uemura ‘Pristine’ which is a green that contains a lot of yellow

One of the beauty trick that really grounded Amanda’s green eyeshadow on Ugly Betty was black eyeliner. If you really want to define your eyes, you should add some black eyeliner to really make your eyes stand out.

On a different note, one of Becki’s biggest beauty secret also happens to be my own: water!

According to her interview in InStyle, Becki replaced her daily consumption of soda drinks and wine with water for a month and her skin glowed. Due to a busy schedule that includes long hours on the set of Ugly Betty and the intensive traveling involved in her profession, Becki keeps her daily beauty regime to a few simple steps: cleanser, toner and moisturizer.

SeenON! Guest Blogger: The Purse Blog on the Handbags at the SATC Movie Premiere

  |  { 1 } COMMENT

sex_and_the_city_movie_1.jpg

The buzz in the fashion world has been talking about and hyping up the Sex and the City Movie. Well it is finally here! The ladies of Sex and the City hit the pink carpet last week for the New York city premiere. Sarah Jessica Parker dazzled the pink carpet with her fabulous Nina Ricci gown. Kim Cattrall rocked her way down the carpet looking fabulous, per usual. But the accessories of Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis lured me in.

Sex_and_the_city_movie_3.jpg

I believe that evening bags are a huge statement piece and help to finish off and pull together a smashing outfit. Kristin Davis looked as sophisticated and elegant as ever, and choose to adorn her gold and black dress with Christian Louboutin accessories. While Christian Louboutin is known for his fabulous red sole heels, Kristin David only helped to further his accessories by sporting a Louboutin clutch with lady shoe closures. Bottega Veneta bags are known for their timeless appeal and this was a perfect fit with the white gown Cynthia Nixon wore to the premiere. Cynthia choose the evening staple from Bottega Veneta ‘The Knot Clutch’ .

Though the ladies showed up beautifully on the pink carpet, it is their wardrobes and handbags in the movie that I am most intrigued by. Call this fashionista crazy, but I have not seen the movie yet! I am waiting for the crowds to die down a bit so I can sit, relax, and enjoy the fabulous show.

SeenON! Guest Blogger: Desperate Housewives Wear Long Hair in Season 4

Krizia from www.myBeautyMatch.com on long hair after 35!

desparatehousewives_cast

There’s good reality TV and then there’s not so good reality TV. The 2007 writer’s strike has really forced a lot of us to ingest a whole lot of bad reality TV and I for one am elated at the fact that real TV is back on the small screen!

I was watching the newest story plots of the ‘Desperate Housewives’ and I could not help but notice that other than Eva Longoria-Parker (she’s only 33), all the other main characters were in their 40s and even 50s (Dana Delany just turned 52) and not only were these women looking incredible, but they were all sporting long hair.

There is a belief by some stylist that women past a certain age should cut their hair short. Now I will say that some women look sensational with short hair … let’s think of Halle Berry as a great example, but for most women such short hair is simply not an option.

If you’ve ever been to Italy, you will quickly notice how Italian women keep their hair long as they age.

What really got me on this train of thought was Nicolette’s Sheridan’s character: Edie. During last Sunday’s episode we saw her with a super sleek ponytail and with her hair down and Nicolette looked simply divine. Just like Teri Hatcher, Marcia Cross, Felicity Huffman (given that Lynette is now recovering from cancer and wearing a long haired wig) and newcomer Dana Daleny (who plays Katherine Mayfair), Nicolette is sporting hair pass her shoulders and she looks sexy.

Women in their 20s and 30s can get away with pretty much any hairstyle and any hair length, but women in their 40s and 50s who still want to sport long hair have to remember a few tips:

* You need to keep the style soft and sexy … blunt cuts will looks too severe.

* Make sure you get your hair professionally colored.

* Don’t color your hair too dark, opt for a lighter tone than the color you were born with.

* Silver hair is sublime, but if you choose to keep your hair gray, you’ll have to treat it and style it so it looks sexy and not matronly.

* Long hair does NOT mean hair so long that you can sit on it … if you’ve not gotten your hair cut in 10 years … you need to consult a stylist immediately! Long hair on women in their late thirties, 40s and 50s MUST be styled or else it looks like a curtain or a drape … it’s simply not flattering at all and it ages you faster than you’d like.

* Don’t be stuck in the past. I hate to use Ivana Trump-Rubicondi for this example, but she’s still wearing hairstyles that were popular in the 80s and she would look much better with softer up-does and she would gain by letting her hair down more often.

As promised here is the second of two posts from BB on Spring Trends. Read below as she takes a look at the “Brights” trend as seen on Mary-Kate Olsen and Tori Spelling.

Spring Trend: “Brights”

Tori Spelling

Rockin the bold, bright trend at her “sTori Telling” launch party, Hot Mama Tori Spelling worked the Kitson Red Carpet in a modern, yellow one-shoulder bubble mini dress.

Tori_Spelling_1.jpg

With her California glow, it’s easy for this Mama to indulge in all the brilliant colors of the season. The chic trapeze shape skims perfectly over her ever-growing belly making it an insanely flattering cut. Chunky stone necklace, dainty black heels, and gold cuff add a sweet rocker edge to her look. Hubby Dean would be so proud!

My take is that asymmetrical necklines will lead the trend this season.

Get Tori’s evening style in fuchsia with this Kooba One-Shoulder Bubble Dress.

Mary-Kate Olsen

Accessories have a way of making an old piece new. Good news for Mary-Kate as it looks like she just couldn’t resist raiding her sis’ Ashley’s closet. Here she is at the after-party for the screening of “21” in the all too familiar Calvin Klein Collection Jumper. But I’m lovin’ the fabulous dose of color that she’s incorporated into this neutral evening look with a vibrant fuchsia belt. This simple addition not only defines her waistline, but also makes a bold statement-just what we expect from these fearless fashion darlings.

mary_kate_pink.jpg

The must-have accessory this season…belts. In skinny or wide, bright-colored or exotic textured leather, they bring an extra level of chic and sophistication to any outfit.

Want to steal Mary-Kate’s belt? This red/pink patent leather belt has all the punch you’ll need.
