Interview: Jonny from The Fashion Show

SeenON! is buzzing with excitement over The Fashion Show and things just got better.   I just got off of the phone with contestant Jonny Day. Unfortunately, Jonny was asked to leave the show last night but he was in very good spirits and is such a doll.  Below is what Jonny had to say about the judging, changes he would have made, and future plans.

This self-taught designer is inspired by experimentation and is currently developing a new addition to Elmer Ave menswear collection to fit women dubbed "the doll fit."

SO!: How did you hear about The Fashion Show?

JD: I was approached by the L.A. casting panel to be on the show.  They really pressured me to go on it.

SO!: If you could change one move that you made in the competition, what would it be?

JD: We really had a short amount of time and had to make quick decisions, but if I change one thing I would have picked a different model for that outfit.

SO!: How did it feel when the judges were complimenting you on the outfit you were wearing, but not on the look  you created?

JD: They must not have known anything about me.  As I was getting torn to pieces they were complimenting me on my suit that I designed. The judges didn’t know that I am menswear designer.  Fern Mallis came over and complimented me after the show.

SO!: What do you think of the judging process and hosts?

JD: I would like to know who was in that crowd, honestly.  I don’t think that the other team’s designs were must haves.  We should have been given more credit for our tube skirt being a must have.

SO!: What’s next for you?

JD: I just opened a retail and wholesale store (Elmer Ave) in downtown L.A. We create custom wardrobes and our clientle includes Tommy Lee, Black Eyed Peas, Paramore and Panic! At the Disco.  We are also developing “Dollfit”, which is women’s clothing that will incorporate suiting with undergarments, such as a corset with a vest.

SO!: Do you have any advice for those trying to break into the industry?

JD: Just start. Start at any level.  So many people get stuck on how to get into the industry.  I got started by designing clothes for my punk band.  Oh and have a lot of money.
