It’s hard out there for an ex-con. Paris Hilton’s ticket to celebrity, The Simple Life, has not been picked up for next season by E! due to the overexposure of Paris and her jailbird friend, Nicole Richie. Worse, the word’s come down that her grandfather Barron has cut her out of his will. That’s $51 million down the tubes in one swoop of a lawyer’s pen. Considering her attempt to break into the fashion industry and her new gig as a cast member in “Repo! The Genetic Opera,” she’s not going away any time soon. More and more of us just wish she would.

Seems like Emma Watson’s popping up everywhere these days. Small wonder when she’s so grounded and cool at the same time as well as starring in the Harry Potter franchise. The Daily Mail caught up with her on a shopping trip (she digs Kitson’s kitschy-cute underwear!) while she’s in Los Angeles getting herself memorialized outside Mann’s Chinese Theater along with her co-stars, Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint. Extra showed her some stills from Daniel’s photo shoot for Details magazine. They bugged her eyes out, let me tell you. And American ladies, when you check the shots out, do please keep in mind the boy’s not quite 18. Most of us are going to have to deal with drooling while feeling vaguely guilty about it for a few more months yet!

So often, I post to get snarky about one celeb or another acting like a complete ditz in public. But sometimes, I want to focus on the good stuff. Emma “Hermione Granger” Watson gives me the perfect reason. The pending premiere of the fifth Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, gave her the chance to speak out on the image of girls and women in the public eye. “There are too many stupid girls in the media,” she said to Parade magazine. So, so true. And she certainly isn’t one of them. She’s keeping on with her schoolwork after getting 10 GSCEs (for those of us in the States, that’s similar to passing a high school skills test on ten different subjects) at the highest possible grade levels. If anyone’s taking bets on “Teen Star Most Likely to Flame Out and Party with Paris Hilton,” Watson has got to be the biggest longshot of all of them.

Ah, The View. Where else can you get into politics and fashion in the same five minutes? To take it in reverse order, I just have to comment on the clothes Elisabeth chose today. U-G-L-Y, she ain’t got no alibi. Pink cap sleeves over a white long-sleeved shirt? As they demonstrated on “What About Brian” the movie that hits you right in the heart strings has got to be “The Notebook”. Guys & girls both can appreciate the timeless love story without the over dramatic sappiness, plus, who doesn’t love James Garner? Ladies dream for the chance to choose between ruggedly handsome Ryan Gosling or dreamy hottie James Marsden, and most guys don’t find Rachel McAdams too shabby either. So, buy it, borrow it or rent it & I guarantee that your V-day date will be a success! Unless, of course, your beloved is still in love with their ex, in that case, you’re screwed & I recommend chocolates. HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY EVERYBODY!

The SAG Awards were held last night. We thought we’d see a lot of white on the red carpet, but it was a night for gray on the red carpet (taking a clue from Angelina Jolie at the Golden Globes, perhaps?)
