Ugly Betty-In LA to Stay

Sometimes on television it’s what you don’t see that is the most interesting. For example, last week on Ugly Betty we saw a touching moment between Betty and Daniel overlooking the Manhattan skyline on the Brooklyn Bridge. Think the LA-based show went bi-coastal to get the shot? Guess again. I asked Production Designer Mark Worthington about it last week and he told me that most of the “New York scenery” is actually created digitally using a blue screen and some fancy computer work. Specifically, they use high definition digital video of New York City that was pre-shot and then superimpose these ‘plates’ against the actors in the editing room. No wonder there wasn’t any wind!

Scenes like this one, however, were actually shot in at Broadway & 3rd in downtown Los Angeles, which, according to Mark, looks strikingly similar to Queens.
